Principles of softened water equipment

All ion exchange resins used in advanced water purifiers are usually sulfonated sodium ion exchange resins. By exchanging functional ions on the resin with calcium and magnesium ions in water, harmful impurity ions (mainly calcium ions Ca and magnesium ions Mg) in the water are adsorbed onto the resin, achieving the goal of purifying water quality. To remove impurities adsorbed by the resin, it is necessary to use sodium ions (Na) through backwashing to replace the impurities adsorbed by the resin through ion exchange, thereby restoring the adsorption capacity of the ion exchange resin. This process is also known as ion exchange resin regeneration.

Soft water salt plays a significant role in water softeners. If there is no soft water salt in the water softener, the ion exchange resin will gradually fail, and the corresponding water softener will lose its function of softening and purifying water quality. However, it is not recommended to drink water directly from the water softener, as soft water salts can only remove calcium, magnesium ions, and some suspended solids from clean water, and cannot kill bacteria.

Calculation method for salt consumption and salt concentration of softened water equipment

Generally speaking, it can be calculated as follows: resin amount (L) * 160=salt amount (g), concentration of soft water salt NaCI regeneration solution 5-12%; If the resin quantity is 10L, the regeneration rate is usually 10 * 160=1600g, which is 1.6 kilograms. This depends on the requirements of inlet hardness and outlet water quality.

The simple calculation method for resin regeneration salt consumption is as follows:

1) The concentration of NaCI regeneration solution is 5-12%;

The concentration of salt solution is determined by the proportion of saturated salt solution sucked in by the water flow rate injected into the injector. Generally, the salt solution concentration is between 5-12%, and the higher the inlet pressure, the higher the concentration after mixing. In general, the parameters are set as follows: 10 minutes for reverse suction, 30-50 minutes for regeneration, and 10-20 minutes for water injection (with float controlled salt bucket). You can make small changes based on the above parameters.

2) The amount of regeneration liquid is 2-3 times the volume of resin filling;

Each liter of resin requires salt:

Minimum salt consumption: 2 times x concentration 5%=100g

Maximum salt consumption: 3 times x concentration 8%=240g

Take the intermediate value: 2 times x concentration 8%=160g

The salt consumption for countercurrent regeneration of 1L resin is about 80-160g, and for clockwise regeneration of 1L resin, it is about 160-240g. The current automatic control valve has fewer downstream regeneration faults and a higher salt consumption. When adding salt to the salt tank, it is necessary to use large salt particles, as there are gaps between the large salt particles for salt dissolution. Fine salt particles will slow down if they do not dissolve, and always ensure that the salt particles are above the salt water level, meaning that salt is visible but not water, to ensure that it is a saturated salt solution. Oppose the statement that as long as there is undissolved salt in the salt bucket, it can be used.

Also, users should note that in addition to the concentration and dosage of the regeneration solution, another indicator is that the contact time of the regeneration solution should not be less than 30 minutes to ensure the regeneration effect.
